Great Idea! I was about to order the globe feeder and received it for a birthday gift. The finches and chickadees took to it right away. A nice welcome to them on a cold winter day. Not so welcome to me when I first tried to clean it. I fussed for an hour, boiling water to pour down the tube and remove the nasty goo. What a smelly mess. I finally took it apart and worked with it forever. I did use a pumpkin carver to scrape between the tube and bottem. That was some help. Had I bought this, I would have thrown it away. Being a gift, I'll continue to struggle with the cleaning and try to remember to bring it inside when we have rain to avoid the goo muck on bottem.

    • Good For Small Birds

    Cons

      Best Uses

Small birds can eat without being chased off by bigger birds.
The squirrels learned how to open the top and get to the seed so I have to tape the top shut every time I fill the feeder.

        squirrelly feeder

Would love to see some birds in it, but so far I've only seen those grey squirrelly acrobats climbing around on it. They have cleared the top third of the seed from the tube. I have it hung from a cable line with a baffle above it and have wired the lid shut, but the cage is very sturdy with plenty of trapeze-like bars for the flyers to latch on to. At last check, one was chewing on the wire wrap, but it gave up, so I'm at least hopeful. It definitely has some real cool looks though, and I'll out-smart those critters yet.

I must have the slowest birds on earth...those for whom the term "bird brain" was named. It took them almost two weeks to discover this feeder, and they only did so after I moved it about 30 feet from one side of the yard to another. Even now, another week later, they are just beginning to use it. But, they ARE using it and the pigeons, bane of our urban backyard existence, are NOT! Am hoping the words spreads among the little guys and that as time goes on there will be more and more of them squeezing through the bars to come to lunch.

The mocking bird had not allowed any other birds to feed and dive bombed them and chased them away. When the feeder was first hung he continued and climbed all over the feeder frustrated he could not get the seed. He gave up or fell in love , whatever, but the small birds can eat in peace now. They are fun to watch going in and out of the feeder.

Hung the feeder a few days ago and it seems the little birds were slowly beginning to find the feeder. Unfortunately this morning I looked out and saw the feeder tilted as a squirrel had latched on, unscrewed the top and was having a feast. Will need to secure a clamp so they can't turn the lid.
