Milky Spore is a naturally occurring microscopic bacteria (Bacillus popilliae) that kills Japanese beetle grubs before they can grow into ravenous adults. It's a long-term solution because it survives winter temperatures. The Milky Spore population increases each year, reaching peak effectiveness about three years after application, and lasts ten years or more.
"Everyone keeps asking me: what did I do to get such beautiful roses? And I have to say, it truly is the Milky Spore that has done the trick. If not for Gardener's Supply Company and Milky Spore, my garden would be infested with those shiny Japanese beetles from flowers to stems to roots."

Somewhat difficult to use but effective especially if your neighbors also use it, so a wider area is covered.

Comments about Milky Spore:
I used this product approx. 10 yrs. ago
(the product is guaranteed for 10 yrs)
and low and behold it did the trick. We
haven't had a problem with cut worms
until this Spring when they showed up
once again. I know it works and will
buy and use most likely in another 10 yrs.
Thank you for carrying such a full proof
product!

Comments about Milky Spore:
I will not know if it is effective at all until beetles emerge. When I ordered this product, the rep told me it could be applied with any dry applicator. When the milky spore arrived, there were no directions--the package indicated that I should follow the directions on the applicator.[...] I constructed my own applicator and it went down easily. Catalog needs better description for application.

Comments about Milky Spore:
When I purchased this item we did not realize that a respiration mask and goggles were required for use. In fact your write up in the catalogue should have made it very clear that the recommended applicator was almost a necessity for a nonhazardous application.
Won't know the results until later, as we've only just applied it to the garden.

Comments about Milky Spore:
Just applied it this year, but have high hopes it will do the job. Japanese beetles have taken over; can't continue to hand pick them off and don't want to harm beneficial insects, lizards, frogs, etc. Have been told to be patient, this will work if given time.

Comments about Milky Spore:
I really have no idea yet if it will control the Japanese Beatles or not,and hopfully I'll get some help for control in my grape arbor because they were terrible last year but the material was esay to apply so I'm using it again this year.

I spread over entire lawn. It is great that milky spore is effective for several years.
Helps to contol bugs and insects and therefore moles, skunks and damage they cause to the lawn.
Some of the best $$ I've spent...
