Exclusive | Vermont-Built Large Garden Cart Carries 500 Pounds

• Tough, long-lasting cart holds up to 500 pounds — as much as 10 wheelbarrows!
• Even weight distribution and big, pneumatic wheels make pushing and pulling easy
• End slides open for easy loading, unloading and dumping
• VIDEO: Tour our Vermont factory

For over 25 years, our garden carts have been a beloved tool of gardeners everywhere. That’s because they were designed specifically to meet the needs of gardeners, not adapted from an industrial utility cart. The garden wagon has big wheels with pneumatic tires roll easily over rough terrain. High sides prevent loose loads like mulch and compost from bouncing out. The axle is positioned to distribute the weight and balance the load. The long handle lets you push or pull with equal ease and has a comfortable neoprene grip. Tough, rust-proof aluminum frame; end slides open for easy dumping. Once you own one of our carts, it’s hard to imagine getting by without it. In fact, many of the original carts are still out there, working hard. Rated "Excellent" by a leading consumer magazine.

• 66" L x 42-1/4" W x 30" H overall

I LET SANTA CLAUS GIVE THIS TO ME LAST XMAS, I STAINED IT GREEN TO MATCH MY SHED. I FOUND THE ASSEMBLY ALMOST AS EASY AS I WAS PROMISED, ONLY ONE BOLT DID NOT FIT BUT NOT ESSENTIAL. THE QUALITY OF THE CART MATERIAL AND THE INTRUCTIONS SHEET WAS EXCELLENT. I HAVE BEEN USING IT ALL OF THIS YEAR & HAVE BEEN THOROUGHLY PLEASED WITH IT

Comments about Large Gardener's Supply Cart:

By far the best cart I have used. Much better load balance and construction than other cheaper carts at farm and garden stores. I have hualed the harvest, hay, fire wood, kids, tools, meat birds, and more! I take this large cart on all sorts of terrain. I think it has saved my back and made for much more productive days around the farm.

So many comments about assembly issues. I had no real issues. I almost put a few bolts in the wrong place and that definitely would have caused the problems in assembly that I am reading in some of the reviews.

The pnuematic wheels came with my cart and I would say that this is the only true down side to this product. The wheels are sloppy on the axle, the rim has a rubber band that is supposed to keep the ends of the spokes from puncturing the inner tube but it is not wide enough. After several flats and new inner tubes I figured it out and cut an old inner tube to make a new wider band and have had no flats since . The spokes are not tightened and thus make a lot of nose and will cause the rims to get out of true eventually. After about six months of use one wheel fell apart as the bushing with bearings came loose from the hub.

I woud also wrap the handle with a hadle bar wrap or somthing that would last longer. The foam is nice on cold days but gets chewed up too easily.

All that said, G.S.Co. came through with the customer support. First call tried to send me new wheels when I was getting flats. No need as I figured out problem (rubber band in rim). When the hub fell apart I did take them up on thier offer to send me two new wheels. Even though I only had issues with one wheel(no charge). They wanted to be sure that if I had an issue with the other wheel I would have it covered.

Things happen with products and the way a company deals with the issues is the test. I would definitely buy this cart again and I would recommend getting it from Gardner's Supply Co. so you have the great customer support to go with it.

Comments about Large Gardener's Supply Cart:

I have a plot in a community garden, where they have a couple of carts and wheelbarrels for gardeners to borrow. I always grab the garden cart if I can! It has been used heavily for many years, and though the tires could use some pumping up, everything else is in terrific working condition.

As an example of how great this is: I'm 5'3" and not in great shape, but I've been hauling around 250lbs+ worth of soil, compost, and tools without much trouble. Dragging it across grass and up hills would make it tougher, of course, but I wouldn't hesitate to say "No problem!" to anyone who would need to haul around a lot of garden stuff.

I absolutely love this product, and am so glad that I get to work with it!

Comments about Large Gardener's Supply Cart:

First I'd say, don't order this if you are in dire need of a cart. The website said, "in stock," and it took about 5 weeks to deliver. Meanwhile, March has come and gone.

Nevertheless, the cart has arrived and I just finished assembling it. I haven't used it yet.

The quality of components are very good. The packaging was well laid out and the instructions were clear and easy to follow. Everything was there and it went together with little difficulty. Assuming you have moderate mechanical skills, this cart should not pose any assembly issues. It probably took me about two hours to assemble. But, I also have a lot of assembly experience and tools to work with. In any case, it is not too difficult.

There will be a few fasteners that are difficult to start, but that is to be expected when you have holes drilled in plywood that are lining up with layers of sheet metal, brackets, and tubing. In all, I am very impressed with the build quality.

From a design standpoint, it seems very solid. I personally do not care for the removable front panel, because I would rather turn the cart over to dump the load than take the time to pull a panel with every trip and then reinstall it. I guess it depends on how you'll use it. For a single trip with delicate work, it might be helpful, but I usually have lots of mulching trips to make. However, they did a good job of reinforcing the front panel, so the frame is solid and the floating panel doesn't seem to cause any structural concerns. I think it will be like an option that I never use, but don't care that it's there. So, it's a wash.

I am curious about the wheel/axle design, because there are no spacers between the hubs and frame, so there is potential for the spokes to drag against the frame. It probably won't be an issue, and if it is, I'll fabricate a spacer. Like I said, I haven't used it yet.

The legs are bent along a flat plane, but are required to bend around the cart sides, about an inch or so. So, that puts some strain on the cart walls, and, more significantly, makes it harder to install. Not a big deal... more of a suggestion for improvement to the builder.

So far, I am very pleased with the purchase and am looking forward to loading it up this weekend. My parents have had a similar cart for about 30 years and it has endured a lot of work (with maintenance and a few repairs; new tires, stain, etc). This one looks like it could last the same. I think this cart is as good as you'll find.

If you haven't used a garden cart before and you do a lot of yard work/landscaping/hauling stuff around the lot, you'll wonder how you ever got by without one. You will scoff at wheelbarrows.

Comments about Large Gardener's Supply Cart:

I recently bought one of these carts as a replacement for a nearly identical cart I inherited from a previous owner of my current home; the wood was beginning to rot out -- after more than 20 years in service with minimal maintenance. I think that's pretty impressive. I couldn't imagine gardening without this cart for hauling brush, tools, mulch, vegetables -- you name it.
Many reviewers have complained of difficulties in assembly; I did have to make a few minor adjustments, but overall the cart went together smoothly in a little over an hour. I would add a 7/16" socket wrench to the tool recommendations, and I did find a bar clamp useful in lieu of having a helper, but I have no complaints.
My only concern with the cart or the purchase experience is that it took the company fully a month to ship the cart -- even though it was listed as in stock when I placed the order. That said, the Gardener's Supply service reps with whom I spoke were uniformly helpful and courteous. And once the order was shipped, via FedEx, it arrived promptly and in good condition.

Took my husband some time to assemble it, plus we had to have one part replaced (which was sent out promptly). We had a cart for many years that did not have the removable back that this one does and I love it on this one. All said and done, once it is together----it works GREAT!!

Baswically it's a great cart once you get it put together. Holes for bolts did not match up so I had to buy bolts and nuts that fit. It arrived with a split inner tube for one tire. Obviously quality control is an issue. The carpenter's rule of measure twice, cut once should apply to measure twice, drill once.

Comments about Large Gardener's Supply Cart:

This cart is a great idea but very few can afford to put down [$] including S&H for a garden cart. I spent two days researching all types of garden carts and I have to say I am disgusted with the industry. Over priced products and some places requiring truck delivery at a whopping $152.00! I have decided to make my own Vermont like cart at half the cost. For a few bucks you can get a comprehensive booklet that shows you how to inexpensively make your own garden cart that is very much like the Vermont carts. You might even be able to fix an old cart you have based on ideas here or replace the tires for much less than the whopping fee Vermont carts charges for a tire, that is provided you can get them to answer their phones. I am still waiting for a call back. Also with the semi pneumatic tires the rubber is actually attached to the rim so if you have to replace the tire you have to replace the entire rim too. I was almost persuded to buy the Poly Tough cart here but I saw a picture of it next to another poly cart and well it really made the Poly Tech look light weight for my needs. For the amount they charge for these I might as well make a bigger one like this Vermont cart that actually fits my needs than to settle for these smaller poly carts. If you can afford this cart well it really is the way to go. If you can't and also can't afford the poly carts here either and are sick of box hardware store wheel barrels then check this blogger out: [@]

We like the cart, but the assembly took way too long and was frustrating. One of our tire tubes had a hole in it so we had to buy a new one. One of the handles was bent and this caused huge assembly headache. Overall assembly was a nightmare - holes not drilled out or matched, missing bolts, unclear directions. Very frustrating. The cart is great - wish the paint finish was more weatherproof.
