When gray squirrels, blue jays and starlings take over your feeders, small birds can’t compete. This feeder evens the playing field by protecting the seed ports inside a steel cage. Its 1-1/2" openings are too small for birdfeeder hogs like blue jays to squeeze through.

Comments about Lantern Cage Birdfeeder:
Seems to be very squirrel proof

Comments about Lantern Cage Birdfeeder:
1) I bought this feeder based on the description that it kept starlings and blue jays out. That is not the case. They simply grab the outside of the feeder, and stick their heads through the wire. The Starlings and Grackles cleaned out my full feeder in one day.
Other drawbacks I've found are:
2) cover is too small, so snow builds up on feeder platform, preventing birds from accessing food (about 7" in the last snowfall).
3) Food can only be accessed via holes at the bottom of the tube, where it splills into the bottom plate. The cage holes are small so that big birds can't enter inside the cage, but the cage is located too close to the feeder plate at the bottom (where the Grackles and Starlings easily grab it). The feeder might work better if the feeder holes were distributed at heights along the tube, and not allowed to spill out to the platform below.
On the plus side, the feeder looks great (stylish), appears to be durable, and has a nice feature of a clip that goes on the chain at the top to prevent the top from falling off, while easily coming off for filling the feeder.
Bottom line: I wish I would have read my review before buying this feeder, as I wouldn't have bought it.

This feeder, like the globe, is great for keeping little birds safe and giving them a chance to feed without being tormented by bigger birds.

Comments about Lantern Cage Birdfeeder:
This bird feeder is attractive, and fairly easy to fill. It does not keep the larger birds (Crows, Pigeons) from feeding on it. The larger birds sit on the bottom tray, and are able to eat the seed in the tray. It is durable, as it has gone through our South Dakota wind and winter without breaking.

Comments about Lantern Cage Birdfeeder:
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my bird loving relatives. They loved it. (And so did I).
Very attractive. They haven't had a chance to use
it as yet, but I am sure it will keep the gray
squirrels out and the birds in to feed safely. I
may just order another one for myself.

Like the look and ease of use of this feeder, but the red cardinals can not feed at it. The cage openings are too small.

Comments about Lantern Cage Birdfeeder:
I've been amazed at how many birds we've seen in our yard since we put this feeder up...and in only a few short weeks! Not to mention the incredible variety of birds it attracts. It definitely puts the larger birds at a disadvantage, so there's no bullying.
