Harvest Lots of Potatoes Without Digging or Hilling

Potato Grow Bags make sowing, growing and harvesting potatoes easy— there‚Äôs no need to till beds or hill up soil around the plants. Harvesting the potatoes is a snap, too — instead of digging you just dump out the soil and there they are! Like our other Grow Bags, these are made from a porous fabric that prevents heat build-up and allows excess water to drain.

  • Patented two-layer, BPA-free polypropylene fabric
  • 25" in diameter x 14" H
  • Holds 100 quarts of container mix
  • Bags can usually be re-used a second year
  • Bags fold for easy storage

Comments about Colorful Jumbo Potato Grow Bag:

I bought two potato bags last year. The comparison is my story.
First the bags themselves: "colorful" black or brown made of a heavy, durable, strong material like a dense woven felt, not plastic type. Left outside all winter they seem usable again. You get what you pay for.
Bag 1) upright with some shade from trees.
Bag 2) set into a hole in the ground, in a place with sunshine.
Both partly filled with mix of good organic compost soil. Organic fertilizer balanced for root crops added. Seed potatoes added. Both bags kept watered and tended to as needed.
Plants emerged. When getting about 2' tall straw and more compost-soil added.
RESULTS: Bag 1) poor harvest, small and few. Too much shade. Bag dried out as weather got HOT, and couldn't keep watered enough down below.
Bag 2) Great harvest - as far as could expect from a limited "bag" space. Bag set into a hole helped water problem. Even in soil for months bag is still intact and usable for another year.
Overall: This is a cutesy way to "garden". Price of bag and soil and fertilizer more than price of potatoes! But great satisfaction watching potatoes grow and actually eating a FRESH spud - yes, it tastes differently delicious. And your BAG did it. IF you choose the spot well and take care of it.

Comments about Colorful Jumbo Potato Grow Bag:

We used one of these bags last season growing LaRatte fingerling potatoes with great success. We ordered the second bag to double last years harvest The bag limits the size of the growing mound so I would stick to using it for small potatoes.

Comments about Colorful Jumbo Potato Grow Bag:

I attempted growing potatoes for the first time last spring. I planted in April and by May I had little plants chugging along. The grow bag is great because it can get deeper as your plants grow. It is much easier to just add more soil/compost to the bag rather than trying to mound it around each plant. I had a beautiful 4 foot tall mass of plants all summer long but I had no idea if I was going to get much in the way of harvest. When I finally dumped the bag out into a wheel barrow in August I was stunned by all the food hidden in the dirt. The jumbo bag yielded 20 lbs of potatoes that I ate all fall.

Comments about Colorful Jumbo Potato Grow Bag:

I used grow bags for the first time in 2013 when no one knew if it were safe to garden in Little Ferry after the flood waters of Sandy. Thanks to your grow bags, I planted sweet potatoes in the orange ones and regular potatoes in the brown ones. Yes! You can color code. For next year's garden I have blue for beets and deeper carrot grow bags in orange for . . . you guessed it. Soaker hoses drape neatly over the tops of the bags. The bags drain as needed. And the contents of the bags spill out to make harvesting your crops a breeze. Then fold and store the bags again for reuse!!! Love them!!!

I have been using these for the last five years and they make potato harvesting a breeze in late summer. In addition, I can place the bags in different places depending on my changing garden design. Cannot wait to try this set for sweet potatoes since harvesting will be so much easier and faster than digging up an entire bed.

Comments about Colorful Jumbo Potato Grow Bag:

I love these potato grow bags. In fact, I harvested three of my bags this afternoon with my 2 year old daughter and I am so pleased with them! The grow bags are such a great way to grow potatoes for many reasons. First, it is easier to create "hills" because you can roll the sides of the bags down when you first plant and roll them up as you add dirt and the plants grow. I do not have to worry about rocks or tree roots disfiguring my potatoes either and I don't have to break up the dirt in the garden. When it is harvest time, you simply dump them upside down and look through the dirt. My harvest is contained in the dirt and I know that I have retrieved every potato in my harvest. The only downside is that these do require A LOT of potting soil so that gets expensive in the spring, but in the end (and on harvest day especially!), it's worth it. I am also reminded that I do not have to worry about my potatoes absorbing contaminants either from the soil. Highly recommended.
