Thomas Jefferson was an avid gardener and weather observer, and if he had designed weather instruments, they would have been attractive, long-lasting tools. The Jeffersonian Thermometer uses a unique pierced brass drum gauge, with separate Fahrenheit and Celsius temperature scales to allow readings from either side. A large isolated bimetallic coil allows an accurate reading even in full sunlight. Large pierced numbers with relief in contrasting stainless steel together with stainless steel pointers make it easy to read.
