You could probably do this without a kit, but the kit makes it extremely easy, and fun. The illuminated ice globes are beautiful. I liked it so much, I bought three more to give as gifts.
I sent this to my sister who lives in Minnesota. She was going to put these on her deck rails. She thought it was a great gift as she likes the crafts side of things. Order the extra balloon kit if you are making a lot of these. The balloons are one use only.
When I bought the kit, I truly did not understand how it would work. We filled a large balloon and froze it in our freezer for Christmas Eve. The insulated disc kept the bottom from freezing. We popped the balloon and had a beautiful ice globe with plenty of room to place a water proof light. A light Christmas magic snow fell making the globe absolutely beautiful. We highly recommend this great family project.

Cons
Best Uses
- Conversation piece
I made six ice globes and displayed them outside on my rock walls the evening we were having a holiday party. It really got attention - a real conversation piece. 5 days later, they're still looking good though today we're expecting rain. I'll have to make more to replace them.
