Good for watering small areas with delicate plants. When not in use it looks "cute" setting as an ornament in or near the garden or area of use.
When some one sees it for the first time they ask what it it and how it works , they usually end up trying it,especially the youngsters.

I bought this on a whim: partly because I like hedgehogs, and partly because I'd just watched the Cosmos episode where Carl Sagan demonstrates the use of the "water thief", and I wanted to try it. The thumb waterer is useful in the vegetable garden, but too drippy for indoor use. One does need a deepish bucket of water in which to fill it. Still, for a whim, I'm happy with the item.

This thing is cute, but it dribbles because even if you have good seal with your thumb, the thing is a little porous and moving it at all allows air in the bottom. Plus you have to have a water vessel that is deep enough to submerge the hedgehog in to fill it several times, so you're still going to be carrying a couple of gallons around while you're watering. This is good for smaller pots on the patio where a large volume isn't necessary and water dribbles won't do any damage.

I think the hedgehog is a great device except that it doesn't hold much water. If you have alot of plants there is a lot of refilling. It's still fun !

I grow many plants (vegetables & herbs)from seed, and find this extremely useful in watering all my seedlings. The gentle flow of water from it does not smash the seedlings into the dirt. Very nice, and attractive.

The thumb waterer was just what I needed for my indoor seedlings. A spray bottle won't penetrate the soil and an old milk jug has a far too powerful flow. The cute little hedgehog makes a great display item for the table as well!

This little fellow is So cute- even if he didn't help around the indoor garden. Once immersed he fills up very quickly. I use a small bucket and fill as I go since I have several flats/ pots that benefit from the Hedgehog's gentle shower. Much better than trying to control a bottle in places where a watering can is too large.

Great for pinpoint watering. Nice easy shower for small plants and seedlings. Plus it's decorative while sitting amongst the plants waiting for you to put him to work again! Easy for small hands to use too.
