Grub Guard Beneficial Nematodes Control Your Garden's Worst Enemy

  • Contains naturally occurring, beneficial microorganisms that help control Japanese beetles
  • Attacks the soil-dwelling, grub stage of the beetle
  • Starts working within 48 hours, keeps working all summer long
  • Sprayer not included; we recommend our Hose-End Sprayer

Japanese beetles are one of the most destructive garden pests. As adults, they ravage your flowers and vegetables. As young grubs they devour your lawn's root system, and they attract skunks and moles. Grub Guard beneficial nematodes are naturally occurring microorganisms that live in the soil, feeding on Japanese beetle grubs. Unlike chemical controls, they won't harm earthworms or most beneficial insects, and they are safe around pets.

  • Contains two species of beneficial nematodes: Steinernema carpocapsae and Heterorhabditis bacteriophora
  • Sponge is 2-1/2" x 6"
  • 1 million size will treat 2,000 square feet
  • 6 million will treat 12,000 square feet
  • Also controls Colorado potato beetle grubs, cutworms, root weevils, flea larvae and other soil-dwelling insects

    Comments about Grub Guard:

I have grown my own potatoes for over 30 years, and always had damage from june beetle grubs eating holes in the tubers. In 2011 I had almost 40% damage in my new garden. In 2012 I tried Grub Guard. In 2013 I had less than 1% damage. For potatoes, I have found it best to apply as you are doing the first hilling. You don't have to worry about the effects of the sun, or watering in.

        Comments about Grub Guard:

This is the second application this year of grub guard in my garden. I first applied in the spring and it seemed to reduce the number of Japanese beetles in my garden but not all. Gardener's Supply recommended another application in the fall, so I did it again last month. I won't know how effective it is until the next growing season, but I am hopeful since there was a noticeable reduction in pests last summer. I plan to apply again in the spring.

        Comments about Grub Guard:

I am starting my own veggie mini farm. I wanted a product that was safe to the environment and my pets. This filled the bill. I did find it a bit difficult to mix the product with the necessary water. It was a bit confusing. It seems to have worked for quite a while, now I am seeing holes in the leaves on my eggplant again.

          Comments about Grub Guard:

This will actually be our 4th year! but last year hardly counts because we were in a drought. The beneficial nematodes really control the number of japanese beetles. Since everything about the product is so safe for kids and pets, our neighbors don't mind at all that we extend our coverage into their yards a bit. We have really noticed that all of our trees and bushes are healthier too! These nematodes may be eating some box elder nymphs, birch borers and earwig nymphs. Applying it early, but after the frost really helps!!!

I dug up an area I had sprayed and had been infested with grubs this morning and didn't see any. The product was easy to use once I made a phone call to Garden Supply to find out what setting to use with my Ortho sprayer. The product was easy to mix and apply.
I'll definitely use it in my other gardens if I see grubs in them

              Comments about Grub Guard:

I am waiting to see if the grubs I found in my yard last winter are gone. I sprayed this product, following the instructions to the letter, about a month ago. I will increase the stars to 5 if it really killed the grubs. It is safe for pets, which was crucial for me. I did not realize that I needed to be prepared to act immediately upon receiving my nematodes to keep them alive. The directions were a little complicated and confusing and you have to do it at dusk, when the temperature is not too hot or cold. You really have to rinse out the sponge they are on to get them all out.

                  Comments about Grub Guard:

I really wish I could rate this. I know the description indicates that there are live micro-organisms, but this did not register to me that it meant I would have to use it within a short time period after arrival or I never would have ordered it when I did. It arrived in mid April and in MN we often still have at least partially frozen soil at that time (and THIS year we had snow until two weeks ago). My husband received the order and set it aside. when it was time for us to use it, about 3 weeks after receiving, I looked at the box and saw the word "living". My heart sank. I'm just glad I didn't order the larger supply! :-(
                  Will try again, next year.
