Q. Can a group/organization apply? A. No, the award honors individuals who are improving the world by gardening. However, many organizations apply and choose one person to represent the group, and the entire group shares the prize. Q. Are international projects eligible? A. Not yet, but we're hoping to expand the award program internationally in the future. Q. Can I nominate/be nominated in more than one category? A. Yes. But you must submit a separate nomination for each category entered. Q. Are kids eligible? A. Yes, there is no age requirement. Q. How many people win? What are the prizes? A. There are five winners for each category: first, second, third, plus two honorable mentions and one grand prize winner, for a total of 21 winners overall. Categories for 2008 are: Education, Feeding the Hungry, Urban Renewal and Restoration. The grand prize winner receives $2,500 in cash + $2,500 gift certificate from Gardener's Supply. First placers receive a $1,000 gift certificate; second placers receive a $750 gift certificate; third placers receive a $500 gift certificate; honorable mentions receive a $200 gift certificate. All prizes are awarded to the winner's organization in his/her name. Q. What's the deadline? A. June 15, 2008 Q. When will I know if I/my nominee won? A. Winners are announced on our web site in November. All entrants and their nominators will be notified by mail by September 2008. Q. Do I have to apply online? A. No. You may request a nomination form by calling our Crusader hotline 888-239-1553 or e-mailing us at crusader@gardeners.com. Q. What if the nominee is paid for the work he/she does? Is he/she still eligible to win? A. Yes. A Garden Crusader is someone who improves the world through gardening and makes a difference in their community. |
