It works beautifully provided that the floater is clean enough to slide easily. Those who complain should try cleaning it because ours measures even a small amount of rain. After 3 years the polystyrene buoy rotted and we bought 5 new gauges, one for us and the rest for friends. A good, simple, well made product that I recommend highly.

This rain gauge has been in my garden for for more than a year. I like it because I can look out the kitchen window and see the rainfall amount in my garden. It's sturdy, durable, simple to use.

I bought this for my husband for Christmas 2008, so this is the first summer to use it. We had several of the plastic ones that set on the ground, but they broke & we couldn't see it from indoors. This is great, nice looking in the landscaping, & easy to see from inside. Don't know yet how the styrofoam piece inside the plastic tube will hold up over time, but as another person said it shouldn't be hard to replace.

We bought this for my husband at Christmas but couldn't put it out in the winter. It has been in our yard for about a month and we noticed the tip of the spiral holder is rusting and transferring the rust the underside of the copper cup. An outdoor product made for the rain should not rust. Now we have to take the time and money to correct the problem. Disappointed.

My area that I live in is in a drought I like knowing how much rain we have had. The gauge is easy to read even from a distance. The solid construction makes me feel like I will own this for a very long time.

This rain gauge is very easy to read from inside our house which makes it perfect for my husband who checks it often. The down side is, we haven't had much rain since we put it in the yard.

We purchased one for ourselves several years ago. It's very attractive and easy to read from inside the house. The only drawback was that it lacked a mounting bracket for the deck railing where we wanted it so had to make our own. I have purchased another one for my brother-in-law (who has everything) for this Christmas and I know he will like it.
