Flame Weeders Recalled by Gardener’s Supply Due to Fire and Burn Hazards

This safety recall of the Flame Weeder is being voluntarily conducted by Gardener's Supply in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Importer: Gardener’s Supply, Burlington, Vt.

Hazard: The two-piece brass control valve can separate between the flame weeder and the propane tank and allow propane to leak from the tank. This poses a fire and burn hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: CPSC and Gardener’s Supply have received three reports of the weeder’s valve control leaking propane, including one report of flames. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The recalled Flame Weeders are used to burn weeds. The weeders have a long, silver-colored metal tube with a blue plastic handle that attaches to a 1-pound propane tank with a two-piece brass valve.

Sold at: Gardener’s Supply stores in Burlington and Williston, Vt., Gardener’s Supply catalog, and at www.gardeners.com from March 2008 through July 2008. Price: about $50.

Manufactured in: United Kingdom

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the Flame Weeder immediately and return it to the store where it was purchased or call Gardener’s Supply for a full refund, including shipping costs. Gardener's Supply is contacting consumers who purchased the recalled Flame Weeder.
