- Seed Starting For Garden
Comments about Fast Start™ Seedstarter:
I used this and the APS system to start all my plants in late winter to get them ready for transplant in spring. It works great. I was impress with it and the price. I will be buying another one to go with the other one I previously bought. The only problem is that you cannot wash it in hot water to clean it. You will need to use bleach water to disinfect and clean it if you want to used it again. Hot water will melt it and make it useless for reuse and don't even think of getting it near a dishwasher

Comments about Fast Start™ Seedstarter:
It's easy to use this seedstarter. Just follow the clear instructions: add potting soil and water, insert seeds, cover, and set in the sun for a few days.
As for ease of removal with the seedlings, time will tell--that looks like it's going to be a few days from now.

Comments about Fast Start™ Seedstarter:
I have been really happy with this seed starting set. The mat does an excellent job of keeping the mix moist. I have occasionally added hot water to increase the overall temp and this seems to help the seeds that need higher temps to germinate. I do have both ends of the mat submerged, which is contrary to the directions.

Comments about Fast Start™ Seedstarter:
Purchased this a couple of weeks ago to give it a try. Started some tomato seeds; worked very well. Here are the steps I followed:
1. Soak the mat in water (warm).
2. Lay mat on stand, wrap ends under so they will be down in the water.
3. Place mat and stand in tray.
4. Next, I completely soaked the seed starting mix (I used Hoffman Seed Starter) in a bucket of warm water..
5. Fill cells with water-logged seed starter mix.
6. Plant seeds in cells.
7. Set planted cell pack on top of mat/stand.
8. Water the newly planted cells lightly from the top with warm water (you need the surface where the seeds are to be moist).
9. Check the water level in the tray. Bring water level in tray up towards the bottom of the stand (use warm water).
10. Put the plastic cover on.
11. Let nature do the rest.
Tomatoes germinated in around 7 days. Got good germination in all cells. Auto watering feature is nice in that it:
- keeps cells moist while waiting for germination.
- keeps cells watered now that the plants are growing under lights.
Only thing I would change - the stand and cell packs fit pretty tightly into the tray making it difficult to see how much water is in the tray. In some other products I've used like this, the tray is slightly over-sized making if very each to see how much water is in there and also making it easy to add more water to the tray.
Overall, the self watering seed starting kit makes it much easier to start and grow young plants indoors.

Comments about Fast Start™ Seedstarter:
This seed starter kit made getting my early seeds going a breeze! Its wicking ability made it an almost "plant and forget about it". I only had to check it periodically to squirt with water or refill the tray. My seedling came up within a week! Love this product!

Comments about Fast Start™ Seedstarter:
I wanted to have a small raised bed this year and introduce my son to gardening. We planted the seeds in the beds and every day watched (and waited) for our little seeds to sprout. Now he is excited as we wait to transfer our seeds to the garden. Its wonderful for me as I do not always remember to water the seedlings and its small enough to fit in front of my kitchen window. Looking forward to many years of starting a garden this way.
