these charcoal filters are a must for your kitchen compost crocks that are vented tops, Because they keep your scrap area odor free. Only when you quickly lift the lid to place scraps inside will you get a hint of your scraps, other wise your kitchen will not smell of scraps.

charcoal filters are great at controlling the order from the compost pails that have vented lids. This way air can flow but you don't smell the scraps untill you lift the lid.

I have been using the crock filters for about 2 years and have been pleased. Never notice any odor or fruit flies and they last quite a long time. I do notice they tend to get a bit moldy if there is a lot of "wet" stuff in the compost bucket, but apart from a certain unsightliness, it doesn't seem to affect their effectiveness. They fit perfectly into the lid of my crock and never fall down. I will definitely continue to order them.

I have used my stainless steel compost pail for well over five years. Even though I wash the filter to make it last longer (with no adverse effects) you still need to change it.
