  • Jams
  • These things are heavy

Comments about Electric Garden Chipper:

It's about the only device which has a right price! A lawnmower can do the things this device does for 3/4th of the price, save for thicker branches! For that price reason I bought this one, hoping it would do miracles, but it didn't even work longer than 5 secs!

It would be a great device for smaller branches and leaves.
However, not for bushes! It's unhandy to stuff bushes and twigs with side branches in the device!
They don't fit the mouth!

Mine did not work! The overload protection kicked in after 5 seconds of use, eventhough the engine was not jammed, and was still cold, and I had not even inserted wood!

I returned this item, and would not recommend it!

Perhaps wait for a similar device for $50 more that will not shut down!
In the mean time, I get some nice results stuffing the bushes and leaves under my lawnmower!

Just put it together today. Had a little trouble assembling it but No big deal. ( Directions a little hard to understand. ) Plugged it in and Wow! Didn't realize it was that powerful. Every claim they made was Right On. It jammed once in a three hour run and that's because I messed up by putting a branch that was too big in. ( My Fault )
I feel it's the best bang for your buck!

        Comments about Electric Garden Chipper:

This chipper is great. I have a number of Palo Verde trees that would prefer to be bushes so there is a lot of trimming. Between my chain saw and this chipper I can handle the acre I live on by myself. I am sorry to hear there are no replacement blades available. Mine are fine and have been for three years, but I will worry. The unit is easy to use and quite portable, even for me. I am 72 years old with a knee replacement.

          Comments about Electric Garden Chipper:

I bought the MCS1400 4 years ago, and it has worked well. The motor is still ticking along. Leaves are slow due to hand protection mechanism, but design seems safe enough. Sticks up to about 3/4 inch do well. HOWEVER, there are no replacement cutters available after many hours of search and discussion with McCulloch. Period. The v-cutter on my unit just broke, and I would still use it if I could find parts. Neither the MCS-1400 nor MCS-2001 are in production. Since no replacement parts are available, I cannot recommend it, even though I have had great use out of this machine. Do not expect to get any replacement parts.

            Comments about Electric Garden Chipper:

Living in western Oregon means I have blackberry and ivy in my yard requiring continual vigilance. We also have an elderly wisteria. Last summer, still recovering from a broken leg, I got behind in my lopping duties. My new little workhorse is helping me catch up and make valuable mulch from the rampant vines threatening to take over the place. Another reviewer reported "way to much jamming" with this machine. I have not found that to be the case. I had to take off the hood once and realized that if I paid attention I could prevent that necessity. I have mulched most of my veggie beds and will be able to prep them nicely for winter using material produced within 100 yards. I'm delighted with the machine.

THIS IS EASY TO USE - QUIET-COMPACT. IT HELPS TO ADD DRY DEBRIS WITH GREEN (MOIST) TO AVOID CLOGGING AND JAMMING. I ADD ALL OF THE CHOPPING TO MY LARGE COMPOSTER AND MIX. GREAT RICH COMPOST!

              Comments about Electric Garden Chipper:

This is the best! It is very easy to use and a must have for all yards! I usually dread having to trim my shrubs and trees because of the clean up but now, I just take my trimmings over to my chipper and make mulch! I do wish there was more space at the top to insert leaves and smaller stuff but I am sure that would then create a major safety issue. The trimmer is heavy but moves around fairly easily on its wheels. I just keep mine in one area of my yard. I highly recommend this product to all!

              Comments about Electric Garden Chipper:

This is my THIRD mulching machine from Garden Supply. The first two were those red round looking mulchers they sell for about $200. I LOVED those machines, but after ever season of storing in my Texas (no cold) shed, they wouldn't work. So I thought I'd try this model. And the results? I couldn't be more disappointed. While I love the blade idea instead of the plastic threads (don't have to replace it) it hardly shreds my leaves! I have to run the same LITTLE pile over and over and over and over! Big disappointment there. I actually had to order 3 yards of mulch from the local gardening place just so I can lay mulch down this year! As for the chipper part, that works well. But you have to use thin, small branches. I've gotten it clogged a few times. If you're impatient like me, get someone who has patience to run it! :) All and all...SAVE YOUR $300 and either A) get mulch delivered from a local gardener (it's organic and cheaper than the stuff you get in the bags) or B) opt for a gas powered mulcher. I know they're more money, but you'll get that fine mulch you're looking for.

              Comments about Electric Garden Chipper:

I had to have a dedicated line installed for it. The brochure has a mistake. The blades should be in the opposite direction from what the brochure says, when putting on the cover. I had to prop the motor on a pile of phone books, not on a 2x4 as recommended, because a 2x4 was not high enough, when fastening the legs on. I was able to put it together myself, though. When you use it, get the motor going fast before inserting things. Make sure you wait to shut it off until all the material has been chewed and expelled.

Use this product for cleaning up yard debris. Does a super job when you go slow and don't over-stuff. Excellent for hedge trimmings and small limbs. On the downside, it jams frequently as it does not seem to spew out the grindings quick enough. Still love the product.
