It took some ingenious gardeners in New Zealand to devise the Earthmaker™ Composter, an efficient, gravity-fed composting system. Kitchen scraps and garden waste start in the top chamber of this compost system, where beneficial fungi and bacteria handle the initial stages of decomposition. After 3 to 5 weeks, slide out the panel and let the contents move down into the cooler, second chamber. After another 3 to 5 weeks, guide the finished compost into the lower chamber where it matures and can be easily removed for use in your garden.
- Injection-molded plastic
- 31" square x 47-1/2" H
- 16-1/2 cubic feet capacity (106 dry gallons)

Comments about Earthmaker™ Composter:
had it for 4 yrs, keep worms in it which works well, good variety of dry and wet keeps it processing well without smell.Positioned in part sun. A lot goes in and little comes out but is great stuff. Comes apart easily when moving. Keep several covered bins next to it for shredded paper etc to mix in alternatively.

Comments about Earthmaker™ Composter:
The design does not work; pre-composted material does not degrade, it almost immediately falls down to the next level and ultimately to the bottom. There is not adequate container volume to compost. It is impossible to turn the compost in the middle section manually.A real wasted investment. For over $300, I expected a composter that would excel. This one does not even work. I previously used an Earth Machine, which I bought for $25 at an urban community gardening center. It was far superior. Unfortunately, I moved across country and was not able to take it with me.

Comments about Earthmaker™ Composter:
Wasn't sure at first, slow to get started, but now we are on a roll. Amazing how much goes in, and how little comes out. My compost is beautiful and sweet. Do not put in corn cobs or twigs unless they are chopped. We are very satisfied. Our friends who have to turn their compost bins are jealous of our bin. COMPOSTING IS A S-L-O-W PROCESS. BE PATIENT!

Comments about Earthmaker™ Composter:
I have this where the sun is for part of the day(4-5 hours) and have noted, yesterday, that there was a strong oder while I was outside near it. I may have put it in the wrong place and that maybe the probem. I also add kitchen waste to it every few days and don't give it time to composte.

Cons

Comments about Earthmaker™ Composter:
I chose this instead of the tumbler because I thought it was more attractive. I am still only using the top section as I haven't had it that long. So, we will have to see how it composts... but so far, it is very easy to use (my 7 year old puts the kitchen scraps in) and looks great.
Pros
- Attractive
- Capacity
Cons
- The sun is a problem
Best Uses
- Coffee Grounds
- Ecological Waste Disposal
- Fruit Rinds
- Kitchen Scraps
- Leaves & Brush
Comments about Earthmaker™ Composter:
I was very interest in this and I have composted before. THe area I have it gives sun for part of the day but composting you do need sun to help "cook" the product. I haven't added a lot of things yet and I noted it dosn't use a lot of water. will continue to moniter the product and hope it will work better at the second stage.
Pros
- Easy Assembly
- Odor Free
Cons
- Difficult to Aerate
- Mulch Not Fine Enough
- Needs Solution Added
Best Uses
Comments about Earthmaker™ Composter:
Mine is at the dump! After 1 1/2 years of adding solutions and tring to turn the compost it wasn't even as good as a pile in the yard, that would decompose faster.
Pros
- Capacity
Cons
- Aerator ineffective
- Chambers clumsy to fill
- Difficult to Aerate
- Poor design
- Poor fit on door closures
Best Uses
- Coffee Grounds
- Kitchen Scraps
- Leaves & Brush
Comments about Earthmaker™ Composter:
It is difficult to move debris from one chamber to another. The tool that comes with the composter is nearly useless. In order to move compost to a different chamber, you have to bend way over and dig to the back of the bin. Since the interior is too dark, you can't see what you are doing and how much compost there is left to move.
