Pros
- Durable
- Light Weight
- Water Storage Room
Cons
- not deep enough
Best Uses
- Deck or patio
Am using for container fig trees that need to be moved indoors for winter. Wish there was a little less water storage space and a little more plant root room. Plenty of room to cope with our dry Texas conditions.

I bought these to use outdoors in New England, where 3 months is about the whole season, so I will not get much out of the self-watering feature (which I was after). They do look nice for synthetic pots, but because they hold water, I cannot leave them out in the winter, like I can with my weather-proof synthetic pots that are not self-watering.
Pros
- Attractive
Cons
Best Uses
- Miniature trees
- Water-loving plants
I haven't actually had time to judge the performance of this product, but if it is like other planters from Gardener's Supply, it will last forever. I have two dwarf lemon trees that I want to transfer to these planters. I just can't keep them watered in this heat, and the huge water reservoir should help with that problem.
I wanted a large planter and the fact that this one was self-watering seemed to be a plus. However, after I received the planter, I read the instructions for use and found that the planter could not be left outside in freezing weather. This is a real disadvantage and had I known this ahead of time, I would not have bought this product. Since I had already recycled the boxes used for packing, I could not return the planter. Temperature restrictions on a product should be listed in the product description.

Beautiful, bountiful planters depend on good soil, fertilizer and careful watering. But to take your planters from standard to sensational, you need the right plants. Start with this simple rule: Combine plants with three different habits. In other words, thrillers, fillers and spillers.
