Really an attractive & usefull kitchen item. One issue - mine arrived with a cracked lid, which I did not notice right away. But you are graciously replacing it for me. I like that kind of customer service.

!We have been composting for a number of years. We keep a bucket on the kitchen counter and add kitchen scraps until full to take out to the compost pile in the backyard. I GOT SICK OF THE ICE CREAM BUCKET AND WAS EXCITED FOR THIS BEAUTIFUL CERAMIC REPLACEMENT! i read the reviews about it being difficult to empty due to the lip design and thought it would be fine if I used it with the bio-bags sold on this site also. nope. The bag just get stuck in it...ugh. I'm still using it because I refuse to go back to the ice cream bucket, but emptying is certainly a frustration.i

This beautiful cannister fits nicely with my kitchen decor. Sufficient capacity that I don't have to empty daily, and the carbon filter really does trap odors.

The compost crock is very attractive. The opening is smaller then others so it makes it a little difficult getting everything out. The handle keeps falling off but I will try to tighten it hopefully won't crack the ceramic knob.

This is a very pretty crock. It was bigger than I expected but I'm happy it was this big after I started using it. The lid doesn't seal very well but with the filter, there isn't an odor with the lid on so it's okay.

Comments about Green Stoneware Compost Crock:

I purchased this pot one month ago (march 2013). We are a veggie/fruit loving family and empty it every 1-2 days. No odors.
It's beautiful, but has some easy to fix flaws.
The handle seemed great, but I liked the look of the pot without the handle so I removed it. It was easy to remove.
As other reviewers have mentioned the mouth of the pot is slightly smaller then the body, making it tricky to get out a full bag of compost. At first I just emptied it more often, but even so, the large rinds would sometimes get stuck. I fixed this by placing a straight edged flower vase in it. I happened to have one. I also found oatmeal containers fit, you just have to cut them shorter. The other plus to using an insert is that you can tuck the biobags edges over the insert, but inside the pot--thus concelling them. They are a bright green and are not pretty with the pot. Being able to concel them with the insert has been great.
summary: pretty, high quality thus far, and with a straight edge insert: perfect.

Used as a kitchen composter, as advertised. Within a year, a large crack opened up. Item was never dropped or cleaned in a dishwasher. Material is very porous and not glazed well. Basically, an expensive piece of crock junk.
