I bought this as a gift for my boyfriend. He had been using a shovel for turning the compost without complaint. This looked like a fun gadget and my expectations were low but it's not very expensive so I decided to go for it. Well we were pleasantly surprised. It works great! This tool makes aerating the compost fast and easy. It requires little strength to use and easily turned a combination of kitchen and yard waste. I plan to buy another one to give to my father.

An excellent tool for turning small compost bins. Sharp point penetrates deep into compost. the double "wings" pull up the bottom compost to the top. I would suggest a little WD40 spray on the wing nuts to keep them lubercated so that the will easily open. Also keep it clean.

I use my compost aerator to mix the compost in my bin; specifically to bring up the stuff from the bottom of the bin to the top. I like the aerator but the top set of paddles stick in the closed position so only the bottom paddles open to bring up the compost. It would do a better job if the top paddles opened like they're supposed to.

Was using a pitch fork to aerate the compost piles but didn't know how easy it could be until I started using the compost aerator. It was recommended to me by one of the telephone assistants when I was ordering other supplies. It is a wonderful tool.

This aerator works well in our compost bin, mixing things from the bottom. The only problem is that we use the biodegradable compost container liners and they get tangled on the aerator, making it necessary to pull the nasty liner off by hand.

I like using the compost aerator: it's so easy compared to turning the pile. Often the upper wings do not open and must be manipulated by hand. Its ease of use make me aerate more often compared to the laborious and unpleasant turning with a fork. I'd recommend it to composters.
