I have two compact veg trugs having just purchased the second one. I started kale and spinach in the fall and both over-wintered well with a covering. The height is easy to use and I can amend the soil each year to rotate vegetables. My only concern is that the coverings are made in China--I prefer products made in the USA.

Pros
- Easy To Reach Plants
- Nice to look at
Cons
- Liner Hangs Unevenly
Best Uses
- Herbs And Flowers At Hand
I have planted several varieties of herbs in the trug, to add to the ones already growing in the same area of the garden.
The height makes it easy to work with the plants, and I can see and enjoy the beauty of each herb easier, as I look from my kitchen window.
The only difficulty now is the black soil liner was not aligned evenly on each side of the trug as we filled the inside with soil. I just roll up and under the extra parts that hang on the outside.

- Veggie Herb Garden
I live in northern Arizona and have no space for a veggie garden, unless I remove landscaping stones and rent a jackhammer to get through the heavy clay soil. My only solution to gardening is on the deck, using pots and planters. This compact Veg Trug is the best method I've found so far to grow the plants I want. The size is just right to fit into a corner of the deck, and the additional frame and covers solve the problems of too much wind and hot sun. The only negative was that I wanted to be able to move the planter around if needed, but it would be too heavy after adding the soil. My hubby solved that problem by attaching casters to the feet, and now it's perfect!

Best Uses
- Vegetable Gardening
I moved into an old house and was concerned about likely lead in the soil. As we also are on a wooded lot with a very healthy squirrel population, the Veg Trug seemed a great option -- no worries about lead leaching into my vegetables, and with the covers, a way to avoid the squirrels. I have limited deck space, so bought the small one, but it still lets me plant intensively and use my space as best I can. My only suggestion is to add casters to make it easier to move once it's full of soil.

- Nursing Home Residents
Bought for my 90 year old mother who is in a nursing home and has limited mobility. She loves to garden and has already started her tomato and cucumber plants in her room. Tried out the veg trug today to make sure I had them positioned where she could get around them. Looking forward to seeing her with her fingers in the dirt this summer.
