During warm weather, replace the greenhouse cover with the optional woven polypropylene Shade Cover, sold separately. It protects plants from the stress of excess sun and heat and attaches securely to the frame with hook and loop tabs. We also offer the Frame and Shade Cover individually for warm climate gardens.

Comments about Cold Frame Covers and Frame:
This cold frame is well designed and makes use of common plastic and metal tubing in a fashion to extend your grow season. I found it very easy to set up this spring and have broccoli, cabbage and kale plants hardening off before planting in my garden. I have expectations that having a pest and weed free covered enclosure will allow me to grow plants both early, and into the summer using the shade cloth option

Comments about Cold Frame Covers and Frame:
Buyer be prepared – if you're lucky, you might get two seasons out of the "green house" cover. The green house cover for this cold frame is plastic laminated mesh. By middle of the middle of the second season of use, the plastic was so deteriorated that it fell off leaving only the mesh behind. Needless to say, by the end of the season our cover was well ventilated. The cover's demise eliminated any shot at a late growing season. And, as a bonus, thousands of little plastic squares littered our grow box. The cold frame and cover is a great idea conceptually, but it sure would be nice if the cover lasted more than a year and a half. Fix the cover (or at least offer replacements without having to buy another cold frame) and you've got a nice product.

With a drop light to provide a little warmth, this is keeping our herbs nicely over the winter. Basil was too tender but parsley, rosemary, sage & thyme are doing well. We expect to start some tomatoes early in it. It fit easily over our 4x4 "Square Foot Garden" and needed just a little weighting down to stay in place.

Comments about Cold Frame Covers and Frame:
Used previous model in high desert and the 2 units lasted about 3 years in severe sun and winter. New model has openings on both sides, and this solved the only complaint I had with working with plants. Plastic connections to frame break after 2 years, but electric tape holds it together OK after that. When base weighed down by dirt & bricks, no wind will blow them over or affect growth of plants.

This little 'greenhouse' is the most amazing piece of garden equipment I own (perhaps, excepting my Mantis tiller:-)
I grew and harvested lettuce, mesclun and cos, and picked a huge bowl of it to serve on New Year's Day! We had temps of 15 degrees for several days prior, and still my little covered paradise kept my lettuces happy. I am sure I would still be picking lettuce, but for the fact that it's all been harvested! When I first got the unit, I excitedly planted lettuce and packets of old seeds I wasn't sure would grow, even though it was late in September. They not only grew, but survived brilliantly! I was so sold on this unit that I bought another one for my sister for Christmas.
The photo on this item doesn't do it justice: There are FOUR zippered openings on it, making it easy to work inside it and reach in to harvest. The zippered net inside layer is awesome for keeping out stray weed seeds and bugs. I've had almost NO weeds or bugs inside mine.
One note of caution: don't build your raised bed by their dimensions. Wait until you get the unit and fit it accordingly. We used their dimensions the first time, and the top now has to be stretched to cover. Second bed we built for my sister was so much easier. We set up the unit, put the boards together for the bed, filled it with soil mix and plopped on the tent cover.

It was very easy to install, the coldframe has only bin up for about a month and I'm harvesting salad greens already. I expect to use it year-round, with a shadecloth in the summer. Wished that a shadecloth would have been included in the package.

Comments about Cold Frame Covers and Frame:
We like the versatility of the green house, to be able to move it around. This is our 2nd time buying & we bought 2. In summer/winter we cover lettuce & seedlings.
It lasts about 2 year-round gardens - the plastic conectors & top get brittle.
When packaged, better care should be taken to insure cover is at bottom, so when opening you don't cut. We had one on top & 1 on bottom :( .

Love the concept. My first greenhouse fell apart after 2 seasons. I don't have the room for a larger more expensive greenhouse so I purchased another of these. It's a place to start my seedlings.

I bought the cold frame for a gift and she loves it. She can't wait to find spinach seed and get started.

The one-page of instructions were poorly written & poorly illustrated. It cannot be assembled by one person w/o using duct tape & your catalog does not list overall dimensions. Its a great product but your dimensions were confusing. I was hoping to use it on an existing raised bed based on your dimensions but couldent. Had to build another.
