For efficient composting they need to be balanced with carbon-rich "brown matter.” Each of these compact bricks of all-natural coconut fiber (coir) expands to make about 2-1/2 dry gallons of carbon-rich, odor-free material. Layer it into your compost pile whenever you add fresh food scraps. Also makes good bedding material for worm composters.
