The Cape Cod Firestarter is a piece of Yankee ingenuity from the days when wood fires were a necessity. Simply fill the cast iron pot half way with Lamp Oil (sold separately) and let the pumice stone soak. When lit, it will burn for about ten minutes — plenty of time for the fire to get going without kindling or newspaper. Works the first time, every time. Great for charcoal cooking, too.

Comments about Cape Cod Fire Starter:
We searched several companies for this particular style fire starter. No one else we searched still carried this item. It works great. One thing is for sure kindling is required as it is not a large enou long burning ball to light a full length fireplace or Woodstock log. For us the handle could be a little longer as we are using it in our older model wood stove. I would recommend it to anyone who has a fireplace or wood stove.

Comments about Cape Cod Fire Starter:
I have an old cape cod lighter that I was looking to replace when the container started to leak. This stone isn't porous enough, and thus doesn't soak up enough oil. It's hard to light and keep lit, and it doesn't stay lit long enough to get the fire going.
I'm going to use my old stone, but it's hardly worth the price just for a vessel that doesn't leak.

My son loves it. Uses it for his mountain wood burning stove.
My husband still uses paper..what a mess. I love the idea of not having to save and have to use crumpled papers.

Comments about Cape Cod Fire Starter:
I've seen these in the past at friend's houses and was trying to find something of equal quality. Unfortunately the two that I ordered as gifts arrived and did not meet my expectations. The pot itself is sturdy and seems well made. The lid however does not fit very well and tends to slide around the top of the pot. The handle for the pumice stone is too short and gets hot very quickly.

I purchased as a gift for my son. He said he has not had much luck using it to start fires in his fireplace.

I have a Gas Fire place and I needed something to cover the gas line and cut off valve. This is perfect. Did not need the oil, it is strictly decorative Very Happy....

Comments about Cape Cod Fire Starter:
We have a wood burning stove which we sometimes fight lighting so I thought this would be a great solution. Unfortunately, ours had a leak and we ended up with lamp oil in many places we did not want it. We also had a hard time storing the wand after using it in the fire place as it was hot and potentially oily. I was really hoping it would work out.

It is great to just put the wood in the woodburning stove and light the cape cod fire starter and shortly I have a roaring fire. I don't have to keep newspaper around to start the fire, it is easy and effective. I have given it as a gift a couple of times and people love it as well.
