Comments about Cape Cod Fire Starter:
Surprised by how sturdy the item was. It is pretty heavy for such a little thing.

Comments about Cape Cod Fire Starter:
I like the idea that I only have to have lamp oil to start a fire. No more expensive, heavy boxes of firestarters for me!

Comments about Cape Cod Fire Starter:
This does burn longer than newspaper, but we still have to use newspaper to start the fire. This alone just doesn't cut it.

Terrific way to quickly start a fire without kindling or paper. Works well.
Comments about Cape Cod Fire Starter:
Don't send a man to do a woman's job! I tried this today, disappointed after having to write a negative review with all the positive purchases I have had with Gardner's. This works! and it works well. No, it is not automatic. It takes about 30 seconds holding the lighter to the stone. Yippeee!!!

I was thrilled to see this in the book, hoping to eliminate the firestarter logs. We let it soak 2 hrs, then overnite. No results. Disappointed

Comments about Cape Cod Fire Starter:
The Cape Cod Fire Starter looks nice sitting on my hearth, but I could never get it to burn. As per the instructions, I soaked it in the pot of oil for more than the required time. I used the oil that was shown as a link on the website, so I know that wasn't the problem. I thought the stone would ignite immediately, but I had to hold a match to it for more than a minute to even get it to catch fire. Then it would only burn for a couple minutes--not enough time for my wood to catch fire. I've tried it several times, but it simply would not work for me.

Very nice product. Heavy cast iron.
