I installed this bell indoors at the base of the staircase and use it to get the attention of those on the 3rd floor--usually as a call to dinner. The design adds character to the decor. The bell rings when the chain springs up from the downward pull. Easy to install even without instructions.

I like how this bell looks. My husban installed it so that the pull is at an angle and it doesn't work perfectly. It's a little hard to make it ring. We haven't moved the angle yet but it looks great so I'm happy with that.

After reading several reviews with low ratings I thought for the price I would give it a try and to my surprise expecting the worse I was very excited to see this is built just for what it is for to mount on a wall and ring it from time to time and just mainly for a great conversation piece which it will do just fine on our vintage remodeled front porch as you walk in the front door. What else can you say it mounts few easy and is heavier metal than I expected due to reviews all in all I am very happy with this and my wife loves it so hey this is well worth the money but as I said no children is gonna be ringing it on a day to day bases because the spring the bell hangs on I am sure could very easy be bent all out of shape but then again this is not a toy and for what it is made for is a great purchase.

I couldn't use it where I planned because the photo in the catelog was a reversal of the actual bell, but I put it over the door in my kitchen and it looks charming. You have to use a certain amount of force to actually ring the bell, so it's more decorative than functional. Still, it looks great and its perfect for our 1917 bungalow.

I have not had the opportunity to hang this since the weather has turned off cold, so I gave it 4 for now for looks. I purchased for the look and another cute item to add to my back yard. So far everything is in tack, I do agree the instructions are not great. We will see next year how it holds up; looks wise.
