People always comment on this neat accent piece in my flower garden. I agree with them, but unfortunately the bee does not rise up in the rain guage like it is supposed to. The cork always stays in the bottom no matter how much rain there is. Water simply fills up around the cork. I have tried trimming the cork and the bee stick down to a smaller size to make them lighter. Still didn't work. On the up side, I can still see how much it rained even if the bee never does anything.

Very nice piece, useful in measuring rain or sprinkler water. However the cork will deteriorate if left in an un-emptied gauge. I used spray on polyurethane after I purchased a new cork. That seems to work OK.

I wanted to add a rain gauge to my garden. This one is cute. With all the rain western PA has been getting, it has had lots of practice. I would not consider it a precision "weather instrument" but certainly gives you a general idea of how much rain has fallen.

The cork crumbled apart after the first two rainfalls. I've since replaced it with another I had. Perhaps this one will last a little longer, but even without the bee-cork I can still read the water level.
