I was very pleased to see that a liquid form of barley was available. The straw balls don't work in my pond because they get either unsightly after a time or they block the filter box in my small, re-cycling pond. The algae is well-controlled with this Barley Straw Extract. The best part is that it is SAFE to use.
Note: I was appalled to see that ANOTHER algae-prevention product that I had bought earlier had carcinogenic ingredients! Why on earth would someone sell a carcinogenic product for use in a pond where fish, birds, pets, various other critters, you, as the pond caretaker, and possibly children would be exposed? Please be careful and read the labels of other products.
I highly recommend THIS product, Barley Straw Extract, for use in your garden koi pond -- it's safe, effective, and natural.

Have a barley ball sphere in waterfall pond to fight filamentous algae. It was paartially effective. Bought liquid to see if it would help.
Didn't see dramatic improvement. Now have purchased Blast to see what it will do.

Product design was unique. The barley liquid did not work in our water feature as described in the catalogue. Our water feature recycles about 75-100 gallons of water which met the requirements in the catalogue. Algae still developed even after starting with clean water. We tried using it for 1 1/2 months and the algae continued to develop.

I tried all the expensive treatments for my 300 gal pond but couldn't get rid of the algae and cloudy water. A couple of weeks after I started using it my pond was VERY clear. I did need to use it weekly instead of maintenance dose but what a difference!
