Our APS-40 Seedstarting Units Ensure Success

This all-in-one unit ensures steady supply of water for seedlings. Just keep the reservoir filled and the soil will remain perfectly moist. The APS 40 ensures sturdy, healthy transplants that will thrive in your garden. The insulated growing tray and greenhouse cover trap warmth and moisture to speed germination. The capillary matting and reservoir let seedlings help themselves to water as they need it, even if you're away. Seedlings pop right out of the tray for planting, which prevents root damage and transplant shock. We recommend our Germinating Mix. Replacement Parts are available.

  • Insulated growing tray and greenhouse cover trap warmth and moisture to speed germination
  • Includes Pegboard, Planting Tray, Reservoir, Capillary Mat, and Greenhouse Cover
  • The APS-40 is best suited for starting vegetables and flowers that will be transplanted into the garden when seedlings are still small

Comments about APS 40:

I first discovered the APS starters over 20 years ago. Can't recall where I first stumbled over them or where I got my first ones. However, my first ones lasted 20+ years but finally deriorated to the point they needed to be replaced. I found them still for sale - at Gardener's Supply - so I ordered two APS 40s to replace my old ones. The design has not changed in all that time. The new materials seem a bit better and the new ones may last even longer than the old ones. I'm sure glad I was able to still get the APS 40 starters. There simply is no better seed starting design anywhere on the market!

This is the best way I've found to quickly and cleanly start my seeds indoors. It allows me to start seeds close to my outdoor planting time as they grow very fast in this unit. Its very easy to keep the soil moist with little or no mess.

Bought this system after a friend recommended it, and I love it. DO get the seed starting mix! It's easy to mix and use, and the system just works. Good construction, plenty of room in the cells for seedlings. Dome could be a little taller, but it's not bad.

I'll get another of these for next season, for sure!

I could never get seedlings started and continue to grow because one false move with their hydration, and they're dead. This contraption is so simple even I can understand how it works (it's osmosis, silly).
