This slim, all-in-one unit fits on a windowsill and ensures steady supply of water for seedlings. Just keep the reservoir filled and the soil will remain perfectly moist. The APS 12 ensures sturdy, healthy transplants that will thrive in your garden. The insulated growing tray and greenhouse cover trap warmth and moisture to speed germination. The capillary matting and reservoir let seedlings help themselves to water as they need it, even if you're away. Seedlings pop right out of the tray for planting, which prevents root damage and transplant shock. We recommend our Germinating Mix. Replacement Parts are available.

I bought more because I liked my first pair so much. They make seed starting much easier and they fit right on the windowsill. You just add seed starter mix, seeds, make sure the reservoir remains full, put on a sunny windowsill, and it takes care of germinating the seeds itself. It does the watering for you and your seedlings never get to little or to much water. I tend to use these for my more difficult to start seeds. I will probably buy more next year since I keep expanding my garden.

Comments about APS 12, Set of 2:
I have been buying these for many years. The type of starter is the best I have ever used. In the beginning they were well made and pretty durable. I was very disappointed in the last set I ordered. The styrofoam used to make the components is less dense than previous versions. The capillary mats have been changed and are made of a poor quality material. I threw out the mats and bought better capillary matting from a local hydroponics store. The construction of the water reservoirs have become thinner and less rugged over the years. I am always concerned that they may leak due to the poor quality of the recent reservoirs. I am very disappointed and will no longer buy these due to the quality of materials used to make the starters.

Wanted something to start seeds in my dining room window sill. Easy to set up. Keeps soil moist and seeds sprouted quickly. Have only added a little moisture one time in 2 weeks.

I used this system for the first time this year---
within three to four days the seedlings were growing -strong and healthy ....
I have some seeds growing in peat pots and other containers that try out very fast - if I don't remember to check the soil everyday..with this system my seedlings stay moist all the time..

Comments about APS 12, Set of 2:
Have tried other seed starters, but the AP's are by far the best. Never had any damping off and have been using them mainly to start cacyus and succulent seeds.

For a beginning user, this product would fine. Definitely not good for any kind of bulk planting - too expensive.
