I have used the same boxes for years, and I leave them out all winter. They are built to last. Before I had these, a week's vacation meant the end of my window boxes. Now I can leave for a week and know that my flowers will be thriving when I return. You can find self watering boxes at big box stores, but not with gauges, and it's the gauges that make this product superior to others. They allow me to see quickly whether watering is necessary or not, and when to stop. The gauges won't last forever, but removing them for the winter helps them last longer, and they can be replaced for about $6 each.

The box itself is light weight and the brackets to hang are very sturdy. The wsc.girlindowbox is deep so it holds a lot of soil which makes it easy to grow any annual. The self-watering makes it so easy. I really love this box, the best value on the market.

I purchased 6 window boxes in total for my back porch railing. My top rail is wider than the rail directly underneath. When mounting each flower box, the smallest "L" bracket was not long enough to competely support the box when attached to the railing directly below the top rail. Top board is flat with second row set with narrow edge upright which is offset several inches from top rail of porch. Extra screws were necessary on the top rail to, hopefully, support the weight of a box with soil, water and plants. If the "L" bracket was 5 inches longer in length, it would have supported the box adequately from the bottom. They look good on the porch but, I'm keeping my fingers crossed based on the current mounting design. Increase in size with smallest "L" bracket would eliminate the mounting issue from the bottom.

Haven't actually used these yet – ordered them for Christmas for our family's summer house. One came broken but GS's customer service representative was gracious and I had a replacement within a day or two. I am hopeful these will keep our flowers growing in between our weekend visits!

We love to put geraniums in every year. This box helps us to keep the correct amount of water for the plants.
The gauges can break pretty easily and the cross arms, that hold the top of the planter together pop out and break, meaning I have to wire it together.
