Comments about 31" Self-Watering Windowbox:
Maybe on a railing it's different, but putting these boxes up positioned under a window is absolutely ridiculous, extremely time-consuming, and you will have to provide your own screws to boot! None came in the package. Under the window they are positioned such that they are several inches away from the wall of the house.

This product is well designed. It is the most thought out planter I've ever bought. It better be for the money! The container is very soundly attached and has supports that prevent bowing.

Comments about 31" Self-Watering Windowbox:
Be aware that AFTER you unbox it, then you have to make a trip to the hardware store. Screws needed to attach the window box to the siding are not included. Additionally, you will probably need support braces to screw into. I read the reviews before I purchased, but only one or two people mentioned the difficulty with installing. How hard would it have been for Gardener's Supply to include 6-8 wood screws in the package? Certainly not up to their usual standards. Very frustrating. I'm 15 miles from a hardware store.
Pros
- Attractive Design
- Ease Of Monitoring Water
- Smart Construction

Comments about 31" Self-Watering Windowbox:
I live in an area where deer abound. My gardening is limited to containers in fenced areas, such as decks. Thus, window boxes give me a lot of "bang for the buck."
These window boxes are very well thought out. Yes, they are plastic, but that is reflected in the price, weight, et cetera. I didn't want a hundred pounds of plants and planters hanging off my window frame, so these are perfect.
The construction of these is pretty smart. They have little plastic bars that fit into holes in the lip of the planter (spanning the depth of the planter) to that the window box is less prone to bulging. Additionally, the tube to refill the reservoir of water is near the height of the soil (so you don't really see it), and it is capped so that dirt won't get into the reservoir. The cap is attached by a little plastic tether, which was an extra good piece of planning and design - otherwise, it would be easy to lose such a cap. All in all, I'm delighted with the overall purchase and the value for the money! The window boxes look great!

Have 2 of these on the east side of a barn which is the first thing you see coming in the driveway so it is important they look good. Was always fighting with water issues and it was a pest because it is a ways from the house but with these it's water and forget it....looks great and is easy. I ordered 2 more for another spot and expect the same result. The flowers look great

Comments about 31" Self-Watering Windowbox:
My review was solicited before I've had a chance to plant anything in it, so I can't speak to the self-watering feature, but it looks like it'll work. It's a sturdy yet lightweight windowbox. My main complaint is that the screws for attaching it aren't included; this sort of makes sense since different kinds might be required for attaching to different structures/materials. However, be aware you'll have to determine that and make a trip to the hardware store before you can mount it. Also the "directions" are just a couple of pictures, the mounted planter in profile. I realized after it was up that I didn't do it exactly right because of that, but hey, it works.

Comments about 31" Self-Watering Windowbox:
I have had my window boxes (2 of them) off of our 2nd story windows for at least 10 years and they stay out all year long. I will probably replace them this year, as I noticed last fall that the plastic is becoming brittle. Sometime in the last couple of years, I broke the water level measures. Over all, these boxes are the best! They are on the south side of my home and my plants have loved them every summer!!! The only reason I would replace them is because of the plastic beginning to wear and I wouldn't want anything to fall on anyone from the 2nd floor! Would definitely recommend these!!

I used these across my front porch railing. I planted putrple pentunias and they were perfect over the hottest summer in years. They really dress up and add a finishing touch to lanscaping. They were quite an investment but I am so glad I decided to purchase them.
