2001 Garden Crusader Awards
Complete List of Winners
Gardener's Supply created the the Garden Crusader Award to honor individuals who are using their love of gardening to make a difference in their community. For the first annual award, we received hundreds of nominations. These gardeners are working on a wide variety of wonderful projects in schools, churches neighborhoods and communities.
Choosing the winners was difficult, and we were inspired and moved by all of the stories. Here are the five top winners for 2001:

Sean began gardening for the same reason most people do: to grow flowers and vegetables. But he soon discovered an even better reason to garden: community. Click here to read his story.
South Region Jim Call, Huntsville, Ala. Jim coordinates a 1/3-acre vegetable garden that helps elderly and homebound residents live independently. Click here to read his story
East Region Gloria Luster, Baltimore, Md. Gloria established the Gardens of Hope on 3 blocks of empty city lots which had been a haven for drug activity. Click here to read her story.
West Region Scott Conner, Kirkland, Wash. For a dozen years, Scott has taught organic gardening and composting classes to gardeners in the greater Seattle area. Click here to read his story
